Before Your Appointment be Prepared

1. Bring Valid ID
ID must be current or issued within the last 5yrs and include a photo, signature, and physical description. Acceptable forms of identification include:    

• Driver's License or State ID
• Passport (U.S. or foreign)
•  Military ID

2. Have All Documents Ready, But Don’t Sign in Advance!
Complete all necessary information in the documents before the appointment, except for any areas requiring a signature. Documents requiring notarization must be signed in the presence of the notary. Signing beforehand may require the document to be redone.

3. Know the Type of Notarization You Need

Please review your documents beforehand to ensure you fully understand the contents of what you're signing. 

Commonly used certificates:

• Acknowledgments (confirming you signed willingly)
• Jurats (for sworn statements or affidavits)
• Copy Certifications (for verifying true copies of originals)
  

4. Does Your Document Require Witnesses

Witness must be competent adults 18yrs of age, disinterested party not benefiting or mentioned in the signing, and able to present a valid ID. The notary can provide witnesses if needed for an additional fee in the event your unable to provide.

5. Review the Document for Completeness
Fill out all necessary fields except the signature and notarial sections. A notary cannot proceed with incomplete documents or offer legal advice on content.

During the Appointment

• Be Present and Aware
  The signer(s) must be present, fully alert and understand what they’re signing. Notaries cannot proceed if someone appears confused, coerced, or under the influence.
• Have a Quiet, Well-Lit Space available
  For mobile appointments, please choose a clean, quiet, well-lit and pet free space for a smooth hassle-free notarization experience.
• Be Ready to Verify Identity and Answer Questions
  A notary may ask questions to confirm your identity and willingness to sign. Cooperation ensures a smooth and quick process.

After the Appointment

Allow the Notary a few extra minutes to double check your documents confirming every signature has been captured and the documents are error free.

Other Helpful Tips

• Don’t Bring Blank Forms for Notarization
  Notaries cannot notarize blank or incomplete documents.
• Be Honest
  Notaries must follow legal requirements and cannot overlook improper identification, forged signatures, or questionable situations.
• Plan Ahead for Time-Sensitive Documents
  Some notarizations may require more time or coordination (e.g., multiple signers, special instructions).
